Home to Angelo State University in Texas, San Angelo is a city that grew around the site of Fort Concho in 1867, at the end of the American Civil War. Currently, the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark is a primary tourist attraction. There are also an abundance of antique shops located along Concho Avenue that offer shoppers an alternative to contemporary items.
